Just Thinking

I've been thinking about birth mothers even more than usual today. It blows my mind that we'll forever be connected to a woman a world away. Sending love, peace, and respect.

Women. Wow.

Is It Just Me....

or has time slowed down? With days like these though....

The weather today is unbelievably nice. I broke out my new spring kicks and felt the blisters forming but that didn't stop me. I was wearing those shoes darn it! lol. I could almost smell a change in the air today. Life is about to change for us in a big way. For the better but still....big time! We can hardly wait! I can't wait to volunteer for school trips, bake birthday cakes, wonder when in the world I'll ever have time to clean the house, make their favourite dinner, and hear that little laugh for the first time. Ahhhh! Its gonna be awesome and we're right on the cusp. Life is good.

File In Korea!

Our PM emailed us this morning with the news! I was so expecting it to say that she received the letter from the ministry and then have an explanation as to what was going to happen next, but nope! It is already there! She congratulated us on officially being waiting parents, explained that we should start on getting some vaccinations, and familiarize ourselves with a travel guide she attached, and then I pretty much internally combusted from happiness. You can't imagine how fast I'm typing right now! We are so excited!

We always privately said that if our file is in country by M's birthday (March 25th)we would be thrilled. I had no idea just how thrilled. This is the best ever.

Still Waiting & Eating

We're still waiting so this morning I decided to reach out to our program manager and AP to see what the deal is. Apparently the agency only gets packages from the ministry once a week so our PM suspects she'll have it this week sometime or next week at the very latest. Ok. [shrug] Why it would take 3+ weeks after giving us verbal approval and saying the agency would have the paperwork in 2 days I'll never know but I'm not sure I care. I'm having a very zen day. We're going to be parents. Have ya heard?

Meanwhile, back at the ranch-

M was in California on business the past few days so I shared the bed with the pup, ate bruschetta (recipe below) for breakfast, took advantage of the sunshine, and watched an entire made for TV movie without the middle of the day! Wait! Maybe that's why I'm so mellow this week...I rotted my brain. ;) No, I actually think it is the weather. Its been so beautiful here the past couple days. Perfect for impromptu games of fetch and open car windows. Good stuff.

As soon as we know, you'll know!

Beyond Bruschetta

2 medium sized tomatoes, diced (Don't they smell just like summer?)
1/2-1 whole avocado, small dice.
1/4 clove garlic, grated. Optional.
1/4 cup sweet onion, diced.
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
Generous dose of olive oil. Your discretion.
The juice of 1/2 a lemon

Mix and let sit for as long as you can stand it. Then, if you don't eat it all standing at the kitchen island (like me, most times) pile mix atop crispy toasted baguette slices, drizzle with a little more olive oil & Dive in!

Granted, not a complicated recipe or anything I had to write up but I LOVE how fresh tasting this mixture is. Incidentally, I'll sometimes add chick peas and make a salad of it.

EDIT- You know what I just thought of?! The next time I go the salad route and add chick peas, I'll make my own croutons! Big ones and mix them in. My version of Panzanella (Tuscan Bread Salad) Fancy! ;) Truth be told- no meal is ever really complete for me unless there's a big ol' carb!

Just sayin'.

Did I mention that M and I have opened ourselves up to realistically talking about possible names? Yup! No biggie.

We are of the "have to see their face before we commit to anything" camp and of course their Canadian name will have to flow with their Korean name but we've got short lists and there has even been a little bit of nickname talk. This should probably keep us busy for a few months.

Just sayin'.

Homestudy Approval!

M & I finally got the call last week that our home study had been approved! I got an email from our practitioner early last Wednesday asking that I give her a call. She mentioned in the email that our file had been approved but there was one little thing we needed to discuss. Errr? Of course I called her immediately and quickly realised that I had changed my number when we moved and didn't give it to our adoption practitioner. Seriously. [Head shake]

The little issue we had to discuss was no biggie. Just a little edit and it was said that they weren't going to hold up our file any. Sweet relief! I tell ya, hearing our AP say "congratulations!" was some kind of awesome. We always looked at this point as the time that we would feel comfortable enough to publicly become parents-to-be. Not take an ad out or anything but just talk about it openly. Really be "expecting", so to speak. I never was 100% on what the ettiquette was on that.

Then, there was a hold up. Not that it brought us down any.

Here's the quick version-

We had to get some updated documents to the agency and I sent them ExpressP*st. Bad. Choice. The package was supposed to arrive Friday and it actually got there yesterday. All the tracking info was telling me was that it was accepted at the post office on my end. Ah, yeah. I was there. [smirk]

It got there. That's what counts. I just realllly didn't want it to be lost.

So, what's next? I have no idea! In fact, we were told that our approval letter would be sent out last week but we're still waiting on that! Also ok. We're approved. I'm trying to keep in mind that we would have never of even known we were approved if it hadn't been for that call to our AP. The paperwork will get there when it gets there and the timing will, ultimately, be perfect.

Serenity now. ;) Serenity now. BUT- Where is it? We put our signatures on the edit....that wasn't going to hold us up. That is at the agency, everything else is there, so why won't they just send it already? Send it! Sendit! ;) The imaginary emails I draft to our program manager go a little something like this....

Hi (name)

Is it there yet? How 'bout now? Now? You've got it now, right? Right!

Sadly, in real life I have to have some restraint and sound a little more....casual.
